Intolerable Acts

The Intolerable Acts were the 5 acts that the British Parliment passed that the American Colonists disliked. These laws were kind of like a punishment towards the colonists because they threw the tea into the Boston Harbor.

Who: The British Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts in 1774. The acts were made basically for Massachusetts because they threw the tea into the Boston Harbor.
What: The Intolerable Acts were five laws that the British Parliament passed that the American Colonists objected strongly. They were laws that wanted to punish the people of Massachusetts for throwing the tea into the Boston Harbor. The Intolerable Acts helped the 13 American colonies come together as one.


Where: The Intolerable Acts were passed in Britain.  The acts had to deal with Boston, Massachusetts
When: They passed the act in 1774. The first act was passed on March 24, 1765. The second act was passed on June 1, 1774. The third act was passed on May 20, 1774. The fourth act was passed on May 20,1774 also. The fifth act started on May 20,1774.
Why: The Intolerable Acts happened because they wanted a way to punish the people of Massachusetts for throwing the tea into the Boston Harbor.
How: The Intolerable Acts are made up of 5 acts. The first act was the act of closing the Boston Port. They said they would open it back up when the Boston people paid for all the tea that was thrown out. The second act said that any officer of the British government who was arrested for murder or any other crime could be sent to England for a trial. The third act changed the charter of Massachusetts. The fourth act said that the colonists were forced to host  British soldiers in their home. The fifth act also thought of this mistakenly as a punishment. This act granted freedom of worship to the Roman Catholics in the area.
