As we make plans for the upcoming year it is important we know the number of students who will be attending Regis in the 2004-2005 school year.

Tuition is always a big question. See Tuition Schedule below. Of course, a multiple child tuition schedule will be in effect for families with students at either All Saints, St. Matthew or St. Pius X and Regis. We are fortunate to have the the support of the Parishes and individual passionate about Catholic school education. On the second page of the form, at the bottom you will notice a tuition assistance area.

We have adopted the Xavier model. A PSAS #1869 form is an application for tuition assistance. PSAS is a private firm that evaluates requests for tuition assistance. Your cost for the application is $17.00. If you have a student at Xavier or All Saints and have already filled out the form you need not fill out another form.

All students take classes in Religion, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. In addition, all students take classes in Art, Physical Education and Computer Education. 8th grade students will take Spanish I or Spanish Prep. Algebra and Spanish I students may qualify for high school credit.
Students may choose to be in Band and/or Choir.

This year there are 270 students involved in Band and/or choir. That is 67% of our student population! The Iowa Test of Basic Skills National Grade Equivalent Core Total results for our students from October of 2003 testing are: 8th grade - 12.7; 7th grade - 9.6; and 6th grade - 9.3.

Liturgy is conducted at Regis once each week. We are fortunate to be supported by the priests from All Saints, St. Matthew, St. Pius X, Immaculate Conception, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, as well as Mt. Mercy and retired priests who live in the Cedar Rapids area. Each Liturgy is presented by a different homeroom each week.

All students are involved in service learning activities. The sixth grade works with Prairiewoods, the 7th grade with the Catherine McAuley Center for Women and the 8th grade with Birthright. In addition, our students, under the direction of the student government, have raised funds for the Children's Hospital at the University of Iowa, Heifer Project International and collected food, clothing and personal items from a local shelter. All students are required to have service hours each year. These are volunteer hours they provide to people or organizations. giving back to our community is very important in our faith and our school.

Regis is strong in offering and participating in Academic Related Activities. Although some times differ, most of these activities are offered after school from 2:45-3:45 on various days. Activities include Math Counts, Mock Trial, Metro Catholic Speech Festival, Destination Imagination, FSEA (Future Scientists and Engineers of America), Lego League and Photography club. In Fine Arts, there are school plays, musicals, vocal and band concerts and a talent show. Regis offers a sixth grade show choir, 7/8 grade show choir, 6th grade choir, 7th grade choir, 8th grade choir, Honor Choir, participates in Opus, and the All-City instrumental Band Contest. The art, vocal and band departments will participate in the Cedar Rapids Young Artists Festival. Of course, none of these activities would be able to be held without the willing and dedicated cooperation of the teachers and parents. The Regis Activities Support Group consists of four clubs under one umbrella: Academic Support Club, Athletic Support Club, Campus Ministry Support Club and Fine Arts Support Club. The annual fee, $35.00. We are proud to say 95% of our families belong to this group.

At the 7th and 8th grade level, Regis competes with the Cedar Rapids area middle schools as well as C.R. Prairie and Linn-Mar. Sports for girls include track, tennis, basketball, swimming, volleyball and soccer. Sports for boys include football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, swimming, tennis, and soccer. We offer these activities in an environment that is conducive to learning.

When our students do something inappropriate they are asked three things: what did you do?, why was it wrong? and how can it be corrected? Parents are contacted and play a vital role in determining the appropriate consequence for their child's action.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information. Please complete the registration form and return it to Regis Middle School as soon as possible. If you have any concerns/questions/requests, please feel free to call the school or e-mail: [email protected]
