There are many different traditional dishes made for the Dia de los Muertos. The most important thing for the participating families, however is to make the foods that the person being honored most enjoyed. These most usually include:

  • Special Bread, "pan de muerto" or "bread of the dead"
  • Moles
  • Chocolate
  • Sugar Skulls
An alter is usually prepared where this food would go to be displayed along with flowers and other colorful objects representing those who have moved on.
