The St. Matthew Food Service Program uses a computerized cashiering system. The system uses a bar code assigned to each student and a scanner, much like those found in grocery stores. Every student will have a bar code regardless of participation in the school meal programs.
Any amount of money can be put into your account. The money value of each meal and/or ala carte purchased in the cafeteria will be deducted from your account.
When there is less than $10.00 in an account the automatic system will begin generating a report notifying you of the balance. This is done 2 different ways. First, an automatic e-mail is sent to an address you have provided. Secondly, a notice when the balance has reached $5 or below, is sent home with the student.
Students on free or reduced meals - the computer will "know" your status. You simply go through the line as always. If you want to use your account to purchase the 'extra ala carte items or seconds on main dish or milk', you must put money into your account to use only for those items.
The price of lunch is currently $1.90 and breakfast is $1.00. If you choose to send a lunch from home, your student may purchase milk for $.25. On Fridays, the students are allowed to purchase ala carte items at $.50. each. These items include: Fruit roll-ups, fruit snacks, Ritz Bits, and snack items of that nature.
Accounts can be used for breakfast, lunch, milk and ala carte items. (If parents DO NOT want students to use the account for ala carte items, please sign the form at the bottom and return.
