(Revised: September 12, 2001)

Purposes of Web Page Guidelines:
· Clarification of what can or cannot be used on our web pages
· Consistency of expectations of what will be seen on our web pages
· Protection of students, faculty, school, and users
· Communication of the web guidelines to the community

Mission Statement

"The mission of the Educational Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Dubuque is to guide individuals to:
respond to God's call to personal conversion
form Christian Community
grow in knowledge and culture, becoming enlightened and enlivened by faith
shape society in the spirit of Gospel freedom, justice, and love."

As an integral part of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, usage of our web site must be consistent with the above mission statement. Because what we publish becomes a statement of who we are, all material on our website must exemplify a Christ-centered message, grounded in educational excellence and foster a sense of community true to the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church.

The prioritized objectives of the Cedar Rapids Area Catholic System websites are as follows:
promote our parish communities, schools, and religious education programs
provide a source of information for anyone who might be interested in learning more about our programs
involve students in the usage of Internet technology by participating in the development of our website
communicate with other students and educators and establish a presence on the Internet, letting them know "where we are"
provide an acceptable replacement for and supplement to paper documents
share our experiences in publishing on the Internet with other schools
provide links to Internet resources in our parish and Catholic communities

Content Standards
All documents to be published on the Cedar Rapids Area Catholic System website must be edited and approved by the school webmaster and principal before publication. Documents
must conform to board of education policies and established school guidelines;
may not point directly or indirectly to any material that is inappropriate, obscene, bigoted, abusive or contain any content which does not support the mission of the Catholic Church;
should reflect school activities, student work, special projects or aspects of the parish and community;
must have educational value and/or support the guidelines, goals and policies of the board of education and/or the Cedar Rapids Area Catholic System
must be free of any spelling and/or grammatical errors
should be reviewed monthly for expiration data
may not include a student's name, phone number, street address or box number, names of other family members without parent/guardian permission, nor any information which indicates the physical location of a student at a given time other than attendance at a particular school or participation in school activities.

Photos of students may be posted only if a standard release form has been signed by the parent/guardian and the student and the "Yes" has been checked.

Personal addresses, phone numbers, or e-mail addresses may not be posted.

Pages should ideally be no longer than 1 screen and printable on 1 sheet of 8 1/2" X 11" paper and should
have similar appearance
have a light background color
have a title on each page and contain the date the page was last updated
be uniform layout on each page and same controls used to perform the same action everywhere
be kept small for quick uploading. (Under 15 seconds is a sensible goal)
be easy to read and quick to load
have an e-mail link to the webmaster's e-mail address.

Graphic backgrounds should be used with caution. They will be affected by different video hardware, color depth and browsers, can be distracting, may make text difficult to read, and increase load time.

If graphic elements are used as navigational controls, include text links as well.

Links to other sites should be kept up-to-date and accurate.

Each main school page should contain a clear link to the Cedar Rapids Area Catholic System home page.

There should always be navigational clues to help users find their way around.

Guidelines for Website Publication

Personal web pages created by staff or students are not permitted on this website.

Schools should concentrate on submitting material that has meaningful content, reflects school activities, student work, special projects or aspects of the community which they serve. Quality and completeness of work should be such that student, teacher, school and parish are proud that a global audience can experience it.

What the school publishes becomes a statement about who we are. Anything that does not support the principles of the Catholic faith, will not appear on the Cedar Rapids Area Catholic System website.

A designated webmaster at each school can post material directly to the school's web page. All school postings must go through this person(s) pending the principal's final approval. The webmaster is responsible for making sure that submitted material conforms to all guidelines.
