St. Pius X Handbook
St. Pius X School is a K-5 school with three sections of kindergarten and two sections of grades 1-5. We have a dedicated and well trained staff of 23 teachers that includes a full-time counselor, remedial reading teacher, and librarian. Part time teachers include a band instructor, an art teacher, two music teachers.Technology is evident in each of the classrooms and is integrated across the curriculum. We are networked and connected to the internet throughout the school.
St. Pius also has a pre-school for 3 and 4 year-olds which is located at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hiawatha.
St. Pius provides daycare before and after school . Daycare is also provided on all early dismissal and inservice days.
Art students have displayed their art throughout Iowa and received many awards for their work.
All students participate in a city wide service project with the other Catholic schools.
In an effort to be aware of our relationships with others and to support the teachings of Jesus, each classroom will be taught the Archdiocesan Harassment curriculum. In addition, the counselor meets with each new student at the beginning of the school year to make them feel welcome. She will also be going into each classroom once a month and centering her teaching on the program called, "Study Skills". Study Skills is a six section classroom program for primary to elementary age students. Each session is 30-35 minutes and is centered around study skills that the students will need at their particular grade levels.
