HISTORY:

On September 3, 1961, Archbishop Binz dedicated the new school building containing fourteen classrooms, a central library, an audio-visual center, and other school support facilities. The Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration at LaCrosse, Wisconsin, provided the administration of the school. Sister M. Dorothy Mulheron was the first principal and grades 2-8 were taught.

As Cedar Rapids expanded, so did the St. Pius Parish and School. Three additions were built onto the school. A new church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, was built in Hiawatha and both parishes now support the school.

A decision was made during the 1999-2000 school year that a middle school for grades 6-8 would open in the fall of 2000. Students from All-Saints, St. Matthew's and St. Pius would be housed in the former Regis High School building. St. Pius then expanded and moved their library and a before and after school daycare program was opened. Kindergarten was expanded to all day, every day creating two more Kindergartens with a total of 77. One classroom per grade level was added over the next few years. Presently, the school serves over 450 students from Kindergarten through fifth grade, with three sections of each grade. As we move toward our 50th year we continue with strong faith, new technology, supportive parents, talented children, and a faculty that understands the needs of these children. We will continue to grow and accept the changes that will take place. God has truly blessed St. Pius X School, and we pray that He continues to do so.
